Méltányosság Politikaelemző Központ
Centre for Fair Political Analysis
...
Méltányosság means equity or fairness in Hungarian. The Méltányosság Politikaelemző Kör was a group or circle (kör) of social scientists, media and legal experts and observers, and politically engaged citizens who had formed a group that was committed to a pluralistic society and balanced political analysis in Hungary. The Circle has given way to the Meltányosság Politikaelemző Központ (Centre) to pursuit its goals.
The Centre has several goals:
- to spread a more democratic and tolerant political culture in Hungary
- to conduct balanced non-partisan political research in Hungary that distances itself from the present dysfunctional state of Hungarian political life
- to offer the results of its research to the broadest possible public, both domestic and international, including academics.

Philosophy
...
The Centre does not represent a single ideology. Rather, its leaders and members span the Hungarian political spectrum. Their point of commonality is their agreement that the current state of politics and society in Hungary needs to reinvent itself to meet the challenges of the 21st century. To do this, the Centre will undertake various projects, research initiatives and public activities based on the conviction that Hungary’s political situation needs to be more principled and that there should be a close relationship between academia and contemporary political life.

Activities
...
The Centre conducts four major activities: (1) sponsors conference, (2) conducts political analyses, (3) carries out monthly forecasts, and (4) commissions research projects.
1. Conferences
The goals of Centre-sponsored conferences is to provide a forum for the discussion of important issues in Hungarian public life based on values and ethics not on party politics. Conference presenters facilitate a tolerant and professional dialogue that allows all participants to express their views without fear of censure. The conferences serve to mitigate the over-politicized and sometimes hysterical atmosphere that currently dominates domestic political affairs, and presents alternative modes of communication and conflict management.
2. Political Analysis
The backbone of the Centre’s research is timely comparative political analyses carried out by expert analysts, who will suggest actions and solutions for domestic political problems by examining how similar situations are handled in other countries, particularly Western European countries. As a consequence, these analyses will enrich Hungarian political life by introducing international perspectives and ideas for best practices from elsewhere. The analysts will complete their work with a quick turnaround time of between six and eight days, and will share their findings in the form of a written report and oral presentation.
Centre analysts will also perform long-term research projects of the political, social, legal and economic events and processes that have occurred in post–system-change Hungary. The research will centre on long-term trends, such as the viability of the current constitutional structure, and the bitter political factionalization that currently exists in Hungary. Long-term research projects take between two and six months; results will be published.
3. Monthly Forecasts
The Centre’s political analysts will carry out monthly political and economic forecasts that will appear in written and electronic media.
4. Commissioned Projects
Analysts will also take on research projects on political and economic matters from domestic and foreign clients looking for expert political analyses of Hungary (for example, from commercial firms or academic institutions).
Further, the director of the Centre will regularly inform clients about aspects of the Centre’s research that might be of interest to them, such as major happenings or trends in Hungarian political life.
